Season runs September-November, 2015 and January-June, 2016.

Looking for a fun and challenging activity for yourself or your children? The Lethbridge Roller Derby Guild is hosting information and registration nights where you can try our loaner gear and learn more about the sport! As a new skater, we’ll teach you how to skate and the rules of the game. Enjoy a graduated program to stay within your comfort level while working toward playing in a roller derby game!

Roller derby is a faced-paced, contact sport where skaters (the ‘jammers’) race around an oval flat track, earning points for every opposing blocker they pass. The blockers from both teams (which form a ‘pack’) play offense and defensive simultaneously, as they help their own jammer past opposing blockers while defending the other jammer from passing them. Check out this short video which highlights the rules of the game.

In the junior program, girls and boys aged 8-17 will learn to safely skate, then work up to teamwork and contact. The junior program focuses on 4 levels of game play. Click here to read more about the junior roller derby levels.

In the adult program, women and men 18+ start in the fresh meat program. There, skaters will learn to skate and learn basic skills of falling, footwork and skating in close proximity to each other, while building up strength and endurance. From there, skaters move up through three more levels. Click here to read more about the adult roller derby levels. Skaters may choose to move into competitive game play or support the team through reffing, a non-contact alternative to participating in the sport.
