Roller Derby 101 – Fall Session

At the end of the fall Roller Derby 101 program participants may choose to continue training with the junior or adult roller derby teams, join the roller derby referee crew or retake the Roller Derby 101 program in June 2018.

ADULT ROLLER DERBY 101 PROGRAM

The adult program is open to women and men aged 18+. No roller skating experience is required.

Please pre-register here. Be sure to attend the first session to fully register for the fall program.

First Adult Session (FREE!):

Wednesday, Sept 6 • 7-8:30 p.m.
(arrive 20 minutes prior for gearup)

West Pavilion, Exhibition Park 3401 Parkside Dr. S.

Please arrive 20 minutes early to be fitted for gear and to register. If you are unable to attend the September registration session, the next Roller Derby 101 session will start June 2018.

Fall Adult Session Cost: $150

If you liked your first practice, sign up! Due at the end of Sept. 6 session. Fees include $30 CRDi Apprentice Insurance. Sessions continue Wednesdays from 7-8:30 p.m. Full schedule is below.

Insurance Registration:

Once you pay your fees, you may self-register for CRDI Insurance.

You must register before the end of the day on Sept. 19, which is when your waiver expires.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

Fill out your vital information. Under the “League Namesection choose “Lethbridge Roller Derby Guild” (adult). Under the “Paying Viasection choose “Through home league” as your insurance is covered by your Roller Derby 101 fees. Once you have sent in your insurance information, please email treasurer@lethbridgerollerderby.ca with your name so the transaction can be completed.

Adult Gear Rentals Available

$10 + $50 security deposit

Includes skates, helmet, wrist guards, knee pads, elbow pads. Limited sizes available. Security deposit will be returned when skater purchases their own gear and returns all items. It is recommended skaters purchase their own gear as soon as possible as proper fit is important for safety.

Please bring and wear:

  • Mouthguard – you will not be allowed to skate without one
  • Water bottle
  • Comfortable clothing – t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants
  • Socks
  • Provincial health care card

If you own the following items, please bring:

  • Mouthguard – you will not be allowed to skate without one
  • Helmet (bike, skateboard or hockey)
  • Elbow pads
  • Wrist guards
  • Knee pads
  • Roller skates
  • Gear rental fees will not be reduced for partial equipment loans

Wednesday, Sept. 6 • 7 -8:30 p.m. – introductions, fitted for gear, forward skating technique, register and pay program/rental fees

Wednesday, Sept. 13 • 7 -8:30 p.m. – forward skating technique, turning, stepping, crossovers, falling

Wednesday, Sept. 20 • 7 -8:30 p.m. – Knee taps, hopping, backwards skating technique, slalom, looking, light contact, wheel clipping, endurance/fitness

Wednesday, Sept. 27 • 7 -8:30 p.m. – Knee taps, hopping, backwards skating technique, slalom, looking, light contact, wheel clipping, endurance/fitness

Wednesday, Oct. 18 • 7 -8:30 p.m. – stepping, hopping, 180 turns (tomahawk), knee taps, forward crossovers, endurance/fitness

Wednesday, Oct. 25 • 7 -8:30 p.m. – stepping, hopping, 180 turns (tomahawk), knee taps, endurance/fitness, backwards skating, forward crossovers

Wednesday, Nov. 1 • 7 -8:30 p.m. – forward skating technique, backwards skating technique, light contact, wheel clipping, forward and back crossovers

Saturday, Nov. 4 – Volunteer at the Live Free Skate Hard Invitational!

Wednesday, Nov. 8 • 7 -8:30 p.m. – backwards skating with crossovers, slalom, looking, light contact, wheel clipping, endurance/fitness

Wednesday, Nov. 22 • 7 -8 p.m. – SKILLS TEST DAY! Come for the challenge and learn how far you’ve come!

Saturday, Nov. 25 – Volunteer at the final home game of the season!

If you have skating experience and would like to join mid-season, please email skate@lethbridgerollerderby.ca or message us on our Facebook Page for information about special junior mid-season intake. Mid-season registrants must own roller derby gear to join mid-season.
